Questions & Answers

How much commission does SkipTheDishes charge restaurants? +

SkipTheDishes charges a commission on every order rather than a flat fee. It's typically around 15-20% if you provide your own delivery driver and rises to roughly 25-30% when Skip supplies the courier, with pickup orders often negotiated down to about 10-15%. Rates vary by location, order volume and cuisine, and payment processing, promotions and refund deductions are charged on top, plus there's a Skip tablet to rent. RestApp charges 0% commission on orders, you keep the full order value and pay a simple monthly plan instead.

If I use SkipTheDishes, do I own my customers and their data? +

No. On SkipTheDishes the diner is the marketplace's customer, not yours, you receive only limited order details and don't get the full customer relationship, so you can't easily email or remarket to them or run your own loyalty independently of the platform. With RestApp, customers order through your own branded website and native iOS/Android apps, so you own the customer data and have a direct relationship you can market to for free.

Do provincial commission caps mean SkipTheDishes is cheap? +

Not necessarily. Some provinces have capped delivery commissions (for example British Columbia at 20% and Nova Scotia at 15%), but caps typically apply only to the commission component, payment processing, promotional charges and refund deductions can still be added on top, and in the past Skip has introduced separate surcharges in capped markets. RestApp avoids all of this with 0% commission and no per-order fees, so what you keep is predictable.

Can I just switch from SkipTheDishes to RestApp, and does RestApp replace my till too? +

Yes. SkipTheDishes is a delivery marketplace only, it doesn't give you a branded website or app, a built-in EPOS till, QR/e-menu table ordering, KDS or inventory. RestApp is a full commission-free platform: your own ordering website and mobile apps, a cloud EPOS/point of sale, e-menu and QR table ordering, kitchen display, inventory, built-in loyalty and promotions, and 24/7 support. Many restaurants run RestApp alongside the marketplaces at first, then drive repeat customers to their own 0% channel over time.
