Your First 100 Direct Online Orders: A Realistic Plan

Your First 100 Direct Online Orders: A Realistic Plan

Launching your own ordering site feels great for about a day. Then comes the quiet question: how do people actually find it? The honest answer is that the first hundred direct orders come from people who already know you. And that's good news, because reaching them is free.

Week one: the walk-ins

Your dining room and counter are full of people who demonstrably like your food. A QR code on the table tent, on the receipt, on the door: "Skip the queue next time; order ahead." Staff mentioning it at handover does more than any poster. Target: every regular hears about the site once within two weeks.

Week two: the profile

Google your restaurant the way a customer would. Whatever appears, the map listing, the old website, a marketplace page, is your real front door. Claim the business profile, set your own ordering link as the primary action, and check the opening hours while you're in there. This is twenty minutes of work that outperforms most marketing spend.

Week three: the followers

If you have any social following at all, this is what it's for. Not a polished campaign: a photo of tonight's special and "order it to your door from our own site, link in bio." Pin it. Repeat weekly with different dishes. People don't act on the first mention; they act on the fourth.

Week four: the bags

Still on the marketplaces while you transition? Every delivery is an envelope to a proven customer. A card in the bag with a first-order code converts steadily; these are people who ordered your food fifteen minutes ago. (More on that playbook here.)

What not to do yet

Paid ads, influencers, agencies: later, maybe. Until the people who already love you are ordering direct, spending money to reach strangers is filling a leaky bucket. The first hundred orders are a logistics problem, not a marketing problem.

Then let the product take over

From order one, the flywheel should be running: saved addresses make the second order faster, points make the third order cheaper, and order history makes everything more personal than an app where you're one restaurant among four hundred. Your job is the first order. The platform's job is every order after that.
